Funk of Deception (Funk de Decepçåo)
Originally by Brazilian pop artist Daniella Mercury, this tune caught my ear a long time ago and have been looking for a good venue to play it and Tower of Funk turns out to be the perfect band for it. Problem was, it was in Portuguese and Veronica’s Portuguese was “a little rusty” so I had to get together a translation on it, which turns out to be not all that easy. Then I had to listen to and write down every note played by every instrument for the whole song and make a chart. It ended up being totally worth it!
You Got To Funkifize
This Tower of Power song is one of their most popular. It’s been covered by a variety of people including Brian Culbertson and now, Tower of Funk adds our name to that list.
Great job by the Wayne Altman and the band on this funky classic!
Lucretia MacEvil
This is our version of a not too often played Blood, Sweat and Tears tune. A very good composition, it’s got a little bit of everything: heavy rock, great horns, an amazing trumpet solo and even a little ‘fugue counterpoint’ section in the middle!
If Ever I Should Lose This Heaven
The original version of this arrangement is sung by Vy Jordan backed up by what is essentially the Earth, Wind and Fire rhythm section.
Veronica Martini really tears it up here and a great tenor solo by Leon Rivchun as well!
Shake It Off
This is a fantastic chart by genius arrangerTim Akers and really showcases the band at its finest. What an amazing ‘reimagining’ of a this huge hit for Taylor Swift this is!
My compliments to the band for pulling this one off so well!
